Yesterday in regard to the State of Disunion address last night Congressman Wexler sent me the truth as we all know it!
For the past seven years, we have watched as America has moved steadily backwards. We have become a nation that is less free and less fair. We have become a nation that no longer values the right to privacy and has tragically retreated from our cherished foundations.
Nothing George W. Bush saaid will change the sad reality of the America he has given us:
- Our economy teeters on the edge of recession while property taxes spike and homeowners are losing their homes at record levels;
- Our educational system is broken and our teachers are abandoned;
- Our roads and bridges languish in disrepair, while our borders and ports remain under-inspected and insecure;
- Our most basic ideals about law and justice have been tossed out, as our President uses fear to pursue his reckless agenda; and
- We remain mired in Iraq – a war built on lies and manipulated intelligence.
Nowhere in American history - not even Watergate - have we been confronted with an Administration so ambivalent about the truth and established law. A recent nonpartisan study found that the Bush Administration lied over 900 times in the prelude to the Iraq war, misleading us on nearly every critical issue.
It is time that we reclaim this country and undue the damage wrought by George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.
Democrats in Congress must stand up and lead – no matter the cost.
We need to finally act on the promises of the 2006 election and stop at nothing to bring our troops home from the Iraq. If we do not act Bush will install a permanent US presence in Iraq and John McCain's vision of a 100 year US occupation will become reality. It is time that we faced up to our global responsibilities and begin to prevent global warming. In the richest nation on earth, it is long past time that we provide health insurance to every single American.

In the work ahead, we must be guided by the philosophy that made our nation great. As Americans, we believe in the power of individuals to determine their destiny and shape the course of history. I want to focus on the Democrats response to his proud lies! Facing a worst-of-all-worlds combination of war and a possible recession he created Bush did not embrace any of the high-risk policy gambles, such as Iraq, immigration, Social Security and other ventures, that have defined his presidency as a total failure. He instead sketched a narrow path of small-scale skirmishes with Congress on spending, deadlock with Democrats on Iraq policy and fervent hope that his signature tax cuts do not vanish with his presidency as they damn well better. Democratic Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius called for "a new course" for the nation on Monday, saying Americans "have no more patience with divisive politics" and urging President Bush to join "the vast majority of Americans" to make needed change. He should! Didn't the idiot just say he trusts us? ARGHH!
Sebelius said her "American response" to the president's State of the Union address was "a national call to action on behalf of the struggling families here in the heartland, and across this great country" and "a wake-up call to Washington, on behalf of a new American majority, that time is running out on our opportunities to meet our challenges and solve our problems." The 58-year-old Sebelius said that the American people "are not nearly as divided as our rancorous politics might suggest." I disagree with her there because we are divided. The division has been created by Bush between average Americans and those that benefit from Bush's division.
"The new Democratic majority of Congress and the vast majority of Americans are ready -- ready to chart a new course," she said, adding that restoring America's status in the world and improving the fight against terrorism would not have to wait for a new president if "more Republicans in Congress stand with us this year."
Sebelius, in her second term as governor of Kansas, called for President Bush to use the remaining days of his final term in office to "give the American people renewed optimism that their challenges are the top priority." "Working together, working hard, committing to results, we can get the job done," she said. "In fact, over the last year, the Democratic majority in Congress has begun to move us in the right direction, with bipartisan action on significant initiatives to bolster our national security, raise the minimum wage, and reduce the costs of college loans. I agree with Governor Sebelius but there is going to be one hell of a struggle and nothing positive will get accomplished for our America or average Americans as long as Bush is in power. we have to restore "our America" and "our Rights" that is all we have to do but It is going to be a lot harder than most can imagine. I can not remotely seeing those who are really behind the agenda Bush is pushing through allowing all his destructive accomplishments to be turned back. We think it is bad now! We are headed towards an even harder future but we can persevere

I listened to Sebelius' Democratic response too. It was so toned down, it bordered on pandering.

This was BS at it's best. The vast majority of Americans ARE ready; but the Democratic majority of Congress are nothing more than eunichs. Reid, Pelosi, and dozens of others, wet their pants every time Bush hollers. If the Dems were only half as united as the Repugs, this mess would have been taken care of by now.
What are the Dems so afraid of? They're afraid of all the information coming to light, that Bush/Cheney dug up on them with the illegal wire-tapping. That's the primary reason they give the Chimp whatever he throws a tantrum about. The secondary reason is they are giddy in their belief that they have the '08 Election all sewed up. They can't wait till they get their grubby little hands on all that power King George has laid precedent for.
The sad part will be, when he declares martial law and suspends the elections. Congress will be powerless to stop him, as they've already neutered themselves.
As I've said before, Jim, some of us will survive, but millions will perish. Many of them being our friends and loved ones.
The clock is running out, my friend, and the ending will NOT be pleasant.

It is BS at best! I have tried to warn people that we are rapidly running out of time I don't worry about it anymore. You just have to deal with it. You are entirely right.
I wrote a manifesto to the world years ago detailing what was really hapening, why, and how this will all end up. Larry has it but I don't pass it out unless asked for because it is not for the weak kneed and it is dead on.
It's funny but everything people think has happened because of Bush's ineptitude has been done on purpose including Katrina. the middle east, and all his supposed ineptitude.
Anyway if you haven't noticed, we are increasingly on our own. The Government is taken care of and the military will live to fight another day. When the shit hits the fan the Government and the military can get together and start over again on a smaller scale. What do you think? 2008 Buddy watch it, Bush has yet to do his greatest damage!
I was also disappointed in Sebelius' response. The Democrats are trying to capture the 'centre', which has become so vague and shifting that it is worthless.
What the Democratic leadership fails to grasp is that the Bush Republicans see any kind of compromise as a sign of weakness, and it only "emboldens them" (to use Bush's phrase) to stand their ground more firmly. They would rather lose than compromise their ideological purity. That's why the wingnuts hate McCain so much; he is not a "true conservative" because he's pragmatic.
As for the public at large, they are sheep who mostly back whoever appears to be the most powerful at any given moment, so the Democrats' strategy of compromise only makes the Republicans look better to the public.
This "common ground" bullshit needs to be replaced with rhetoric that shows the stark differences between the two parties. And, obviously, there needs to be a stark difference between the two parties for that to happen.

You are consistently right on! Most Americans are viewed as and are a bunch of sheep. Compromise or agreement is viewed as and is a sign of weakness and complicity. It is sickening but any way you look at it, it does not matter to Bush as long as the little baby gets his way and follows his war mongering new world order.
Dodd beat me to it. At best we have a base of progressives who are informed and committed to change. We number about 15% on a good day. Opposed to us is a solid base of neocons, theocons, corporocons, and plutocons, informed and committed to their respective agendas of world dominance, theocracy and enforced dogma, corporate deregulation, and socialism for the rich. They number about 5% percent on a bad day. The problem is that they control the media. The 80% in the middle are largely apathetic and know nothing more than what they see on the one-eyed god in the living room corner. It's up to us to educate those people, because if we don't, nobody will.

Yes, todd is usually right on! The NeoCons will not relent and neither will we. They do control the meia and the ruling Dem party seeme to be complicit too. We do have a lot of work to do but we will do it! I think Edwards helped a lot and the message will be carried further!
