Oil in Lake Ponchetrain: knowing the role Lake Ponchetrain and the levees played during Katrina I am very concerned knowing the history and how critical this lake is to the region

Lake Pontchartrain: Tar Balls & Oil Slicks Invade

There is now oil in Texas so the entire Gulf is now affected. That said, knowing the role Lake Ponchetrain and the levees played during Katrina I am very concerned knowing the history and how critical this lake is to the region. I do not understand why the oil could not be kept out in the first place but to the east of Lake Pontchartrain, lines of boom wrap around the farthest reaches of St. Bernard Parish, curve across the approaches to Lake Borgne and lie along shorelines. Lake Pontchartrain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Monday brought dismal news that oil had washed ashore as far west as Treasure Isle in Slidell and that multi-layered defense set up by officials from St. Tammany Parish and New Orleans will now be put to the test. St. Tammany Parish President Kevin Davis, who also surveyed operations in his parish, said officials are watching carefully to see where the oil could show up next.

"We are actively monitoring Lake Borgne, Lake Catherine and Lake Pontchartrain, and using the models to best deploy assets where they will be needed. This is a fight we are committed to, and one which will require both time and resources." They are optimistic but past performance and the magnitude of this should tell anyone their optimism is misguided.

They think the biggest danger comes from oil now spread along the coast from Mississippi to Florida, which can be pushed into the lake by the easterly winds, experts said. On Friday, that oil had reached as far as Cat Island off the Mississippi coast. By Monday, winds had carried the contamination through the Rigolets and Chef Menteur Pass to the shores of Slidell.

They are actively monitoring Lake Borgne, Lake Catherine and Lake Pontchartrain. Knowing there is 140 million gallons out there along with the massive quantities of methane gas under the ocean killing the oxygen supply, plankton, corral, and all life dependent on the sea they batter make alternative plans and prepare for the worst.System in place to try to minimize impact of oil in Lake Pontchartrain

I think I mentioned this before but oil as it ages and breaks down emulsifies and remains below the surface of the water in a suspended slime that moves with the currents. The jobs that I've done with old oil involved pumping out all the water and oil that we collected in drums for later processing. That slime will go right under a boom or sweep. Those oil absorbent pads won't pick it up very well either.
Then there's the issue of the dispersants. Without knowing exactly what chemicals are in them there's no way of telling what they'll do in the ocean water.

I have copies of the MSDS sheets of corexit. If you get a chance you should read them. I've also heard their making plans for a giant evacuation of the gulf area. I see this as futile, if the methane blows it will blow. Of course the next day The Governors of those states will be saying drill baby drill.
I've never seen a F**k up this bad in my long life.

Demeur that aged oil or sheets like liver the size of buses that are now washing up in Texas and Mississippi really concerns me but it is the dispersant killing all the oxygen and life that is my biggest concern.

I was happy to hear my daughter in law say yesterday that the beach is done for the kids and she will limit their outdoor time because the EPA says the air quality is not good. Not good!

Tim i DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THE STUPID WORST CASE SCENARION THEY KEEP TLKING ABOUT, THAT OF THOSE MINDLESS IDIOTS PASSED LONG AGO.

As we have been saying for months the gulf is dead for fishing they might as well destroy the rest of the earth looking for their frigging oil.

At this point it is human life there itself I am concerned about, You know that shit is evaporating and will come down with the rain on crops and in drinking supplies.

I wish they would stop their lying! The guy in the tape is right those people's lives do not matter they are just eaters, the little people!

Tim I told you from the beginning this will be the worst in the world because of where it is, set aside the dispersant added in. This already is the nightmare scenario they are not talking about.

I was talking yesterday with Jim and his wife. Their is talk of evacuation but they are not wanting to live in FEMA camps whatever they want to call them because the coming and going will have to be monitored.

Jim says the military there will be put in the middle and suffer the consequence but they may move the dependents as they can sue them and military members have no recourse.
